No charges have been filed by the Boone County prosecutor’s staff involving Dalton’s arrest on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. Assistant prosecutor Stephanie Morrell confirmed that no charges were filed as of Tuesday afternoon, but would not comment further.
However, Jim Dalton, the father of the former Blue Springs South quarterback, told The Star, “The whole thing was blown way out of proportion.”
Beyond that, he said: “We’ve been told not to comment.”
It has been a month since police stopped a car Dalton was driving and found in that car 10 pills of pain medicine that were not prescribed for Dalton. Since, a friend has told police the pills belonged to him, not Dalton.
On Tuesday, during a football camp at William Jewell College, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel told The Star that Dalton “… is back. That’s all I’m going to say about it.”
David Yost, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, confirmed Dalton is back preparing for fall practice. Dalton completed spring drills as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart, behind Blaine Gabbert and Jimmy Costello.
Richardson to juco
Sheldon Richardson will attend the College of the Sequoias, a California junior college, for the upcoming two seasons while trying to qualify academically for Missouri.
Cornell Ford, the assistant coach who recruited Richardson out of St. Louis Gateway Tech, confirmed that on Monday.
However, Richardson — a 6-foot-4, 294-pound defensive lineman rated by Rivals.com as the No. 4 recruit in the nation for 2009 — made a promise to Kansas fans on his Facebook page for the day he returns to MU.
“While I’m there, we won’t lose (to KU),” Richardson wrote.
St. Louis series to end
Illinois and Missouri officials are confirming the 2010 football game will be the last in the Arch Rivalry series in St. Louis.
The official reason is that both teams prefer more home games, but Missouri has won all four previous games in the football series in St. Louis. Illinois officials have been talking about playing out the string on the agreement — which runs through the Sept. 4, 2010, game — for some time.
MU camp records
The 227 registered players at Liberty on Tuesday morning were the most Missouri has ever had for a football camp at William Jewell.
The 184 at a previous camp in Springfield, “were 70 more than we ever had there,” Pinkel said. Still upcoming is MU’s camp in St. Louis, which last year drew more than 600.
