MANHATTAN, Kan. | Missouri won more than a football game on Saturday afternoon. Did more than end a 13-game losing skid to Bill Snyder-coached Kansas State teams and become, at 6-4, bowl eligible for a school-record fifth straight year.

MANHATTAN, Kan. | It took perhaps Danario Alexander's most exceptional catch-and-run of an exceptional season, but Missouri's second-half touchdown drought in Big 12 Conference play is over. And so -- with Missouri's 38-12 victory over Kansas State -- are a pair of Bill Snyder whammies over the Tigers.

Harrison Barnes, one of the most highly rated recruits in the class of 2010, announced Friday afternoon that he will sign a letter of intent to play basketball for North Carolina, choosing the Tar Heels over Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma, UCLA and Iowa State. In a gathering at his high school in Ames, Iowa, televised by ESPNU, Barnes announced his decision by initiating a Skype conversation with the winning coach on a laptop. After a momentary delay, Barnes said, “Coach Williams?” Sure enough, on the other end, there was Roy Williams with the entire North Carolina team standing behind him on the big screen in the Ames High gym.

Key play: A Blaine Gabbert completion to Danario Alexander for 12 yards was an indication of what was to come on a day in which Missouri threw 52 passes. Key stat: 11 of 12. Gabbert’s passing in the first quarter, for 129 yards.

Smith two away from sack record Funny thing to notice on a day of defensive failures, but Missouri sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith came up with another sack. He now has nine this season, two short of matching Justin Smith’s Missouri season record of 11.

COLUMBIA | Those bells of doom that echo out of the public address system at Faurot Field when the Missouri defense lines up to stop a foe on third down? They toll for thee, Mizzou. Missouri fell 40-32 to a Baylor team that won a Big 12 Conference game for the first time in five tries. Missouri now stands 5-4 overall and at 1-4 is all but officially out of the race for the Big 12 North.
