Now comes the hard part for Kansas.
Danielle McCray scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Jayhawks blew past Fairfield 80-60 on Wednesday night to conclude their nonconference season.
Now KU enters Big 12 conference play and all the challenges that come with it. First up for KU is a matchup with undefeated K-State on Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Jayhawks have a dialed-in McCray, who scored 10 of her points in the first half to help Kansas build a 41-25 halftime lead.
McCray, a former Olathe East standout, also made a little history.
With a bucket with 4:51 left in the first half, she became the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 points.
Sophomore Krysten Boogaard and junior Sade Morris added 13 points each, as the Jayhawks shot nearly 67 percent from behind the three-point line. KU, which finished with an 11-2 nonconference record for the second straight year, led by as much as 26 in the second half.
KU will now try to translate its nonconference success into Big 12 success, something Kansas and coach Bonnie Henrickson haven’t been able to do the last few seasons.
