    No title-game rematch

KU senior associate athletic director Larry Keating said that there will be no rematch with the Memphis Tigers during next year’s nonconference season.

Keating talked with Memphis coach John Calipari three months ago about a possible meeting, but Calipari wasn’t interested at the time. Calipari changed his mind and called Keating recently. But the Jayhawks’ schedule was already full.

CBS’ “The Early Show” has been broadcasting live from Greensburg, Kan., and on Wednesday morning focused on the success of the boy’s basketball team, which played all its games on the road and still went 19-5 and made the Kansas 1A state tournament.

During one of the segments, the University of Kansas fight song played, then KU seniors Darnell Jackson, Jeremy Case and Sasha Kaun walked in with assistant coach — and KU legend — Danny Manning. Manning and Kaun did interviews for the show.

The Giants met with President Bush in a White House championship ceremony. But the President let it slip that he believes in the Jessica Simpson jinx — attributed by some for the Giants win over Bush’s home-state Cowboys when the singer-actress was accused of being a distraction to her boyfriend, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo.

After his two-week checkup, Tiger Woods said Wednesday that his doctors believe the arthroscopic surgery on his left knee was successful and he should be able to return to competition with the four- to six-week timetable. He is off crutches and attended game five of the NBA Eastern Conference quarterfinals between Orlando and Toronto on Monday.

Meanwhile the other guys on the tour are at the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, N.C., this week. Eighteen of the world’s top 25 are playing.
