KU basketball coach Bill Self said Wednesday at a conference call with reporters that he visited with the Henry family in Oklahoma City on Tuesday night and reiterated that recruits Xavier and C.J. Henry are still coming to Kansas.
Self said he was requested to come to Oklahoma City after Carl Henry's comments Tuesday on sports radio station KCSP (610 AM) created an alarm for KU fans. In that interview, Carl Henry said that Xavier had an urge to switch his commitment to Kentucky a couple of weeks ago and that the family planned to meet to discuss their sons' future that evening with Kentucky back in the conversation. Carl Henry also expressed displeasure with a Sunday story in The Kansas City Star.
At the Oklahoma City meeting, Self said, he and his staff and the Henry family came to a resolution.
"They were disappointed and hurt by what they thought the Kansas people were perceiving their family to be," Self said. "They work long and hard just like all families to develop a certain type of work ethic and reputation, and they thought that was kind of being looked at negatively.
"But it wasn’t as much with the boys as it was with the parents, and the boys were fine. Matter of fact, I got down there, and they were saying, 'What are you guys doing here?' "
Earlier Wednesday, Carl Henry apologized to Kansas fans on the Rivals.com site that covers KU.
"I stirred this thing up and I jumped the gun," Carl Henry told the Web site. "Everything is back to normal and everything is moving forward. C.J. and Xavier are coming to Kansas as planned."
