Border War baseball series comes to a close

Kansas baseball coach Ritch Price is a California guy. Grew up 15 miles from Cal. Coached 15 miles from Stanford. In that part of the country, Price says, fans talk about the “Big Game” between the Bears and Cardinal.

But after spending 10 seasons at KU, Price has a newfound perspective on what a rivalry should be. Those folks in California? They have no idea.

“I wasn’t even prepared for the first year that we played (Mizzou),” Price said. “I’ve never seen a rivalry as intense as this one.”

On Saturday afternoon, Kansas and Missouri faced off for the final time in the regular season as conference rivals. And perhaps it was fitting; Missouri left Lawrence with a 6-3 victory in the series finale, but the Jayhawks exited with the final series victory after clinching a spot in the Big 12 tournament with victories over MU on Thursday and Friday.
