K-State's Freeman plans to enter NFL draft

The decision to leave Kansas State after his junior season was reached within “the past few days,” but it’s clear the NFL was on Josh Freeman’s mind much earlier.

“I packed up a lot of my stuff at the end of the semester,” Freeman said.

He drove home Sunday to Kansas City from Manhattan, the rest of his belongings in tow. Earlier in the day, Freeman sat down with Bill Snyder and informed the K-State coach of his plans.

“He wanted me to stay,” Freeman said. “He expressed that. He talked about the benefits of staying. He said I’d always be part of the K-State family, and he wished he could have coached me. But he understood (the choice).”

Instead of assisting the former coach’s transition to his second stint at the university, Freeman will be realizing a childhood dream – a realization made easier following the feedback he solicited from the NFL’s College Advisory Committee. Based solely on tape, pro personnel gauge a prospect’s ability by issuing a grade, which ranges from the likelihood of being drafted as high as the first round, the second round, the third round, or not drafted in the first three rounds and not drafted at all.
