K-State lineman Fitzgerald arrested, accused of DUI

More News

Kansas State senior defensive lineman Jeffrey Fitzgerald was arrested early Sunday morning by the Riley County Police Department and charged with driving under the influence.

“It was a simple DUI,” said Lt. Herb Crosby of the Riley County police. “An officer observed some erratic driving, stopped (Fitzgerald) and arrested him for DUI.”

Fitzgerald, 21, posted $750 bail. According to K-State sports information director Kenny Lannou, the matter will be handled internally.

Fitzgerald, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive tackle, sat out the 2008 season after transferring from Virginia. In 2007, Fitzgerald started all 13 games as a sophomore, finishing third on the team in tackles (73) and sacks (7). He is expected to provide a considerable boost to the Wildcats’ defensive front.
