New American cuisine comes to Platte City at Chaz 325

Charles Shurn puffs up like a proud father when he talks about his New American cuisine menu, especially his steaks and the twists he puts on traditional items like a balsamic reduction sauce for some steaks and a southwestern-style tenderloin. Menu items also include a blackened bleu burger, chicken Madeira, southern fried catfish filet, baked ziti, panini turkey melt, and a BLT wedge salad.

Cinder Block Brewery now offering ciders

New North Kansas City’s breweries already expanding. Cinder Block Brewery adds cider to its menu and The Big Rip Brewing Co. doubles its brewing capacity and plans to add a beer garden next month. Q39 barbecue set to join 39th Street’s restaurant row in April.

A toast to McCormick’s historic business in Weston

Kentucky businessman Benjamin Holladay and his brother Major David Holladay founded what is now the McCormick Distilling Co. in Weston in 1856. Today McCormick employs 160 people and ships 4 million cases of spirits a year to all 50 states and 57 countries.

Barrywoods Crossing is getting Ross Dress for Less

Ross Dress for Less will open soon in the Northland. The store, in Barrywoods Crossing, 8331 N.W. Roanridge Road, plans a grand opening at 9 a.m. Saturday. It offers “first-quality,” in-season, name-brand and designer apparel, accessories and footwear for all ages, along with home fashions.

Chick-fil-A plans new Northland restaurant

The Atlanta, Ga.-based Chick-fil-A chain has purchased the former Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon building in BarryWoods Crossing, 6501 N.W. Barry Road. The 5,500-square-foot building on 1.2 acres would be torn down and replaced with a new Chick-fil-A.
