Teen dies in crash; three seriously hurt

One 17-year-old boy was killed and two others seriously hurt when their vehicle failed to yield and collided with another vehicle Friday afternoon in Clay County.

The driver of the second vehicle also was seriously injured.

The wreck happened at 3:35 p.m. on Missouri 210 at Route JJ.

The teens’ vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign on JJ and collided with a vehicle traveling east on 210, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The impact forced both vehicles off the highway.

Benjamin J. Gray of Missouri City died at the scene, according to the Highway Patrol. The driver, Andrew J. Asmus of Excelsior Springs, and another passenger, Cory W. Roush of Missouri City, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

None of the boys was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The driver of the other vehicle, 49-year-old Daniel C. Shute of Bramer, Mo., also was taken to a hospital.
