The day began like every other Saturday for quarterback Brady Quinn. A shower, some breakfast and a morning ride to the Chiefs practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - During each Chiefs practice, Jovan Belcher sprinted to the front of the line ahead of any teammates who dared to outrun him.
Amid an eerie backdrop one day after linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend at his home and later committed suicide in front of general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel at the clubs practice facility, an emotionally charged Chiefs team beat the Carolina Panthers 27-21.
Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel, surrounded by his players and chairman Clark Hunt, gave the following speech in the locker room after the game. The speech was broadcast on Fox.
Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn spent much of the time leading up to Sundays game wondering what he could have done to prevent teammate Jovan Belcher from shooting his girlfriend to death and then taking his own life. Quinn then wondered on the eve of the game how he could possibly prepare himself to play. He responded with one of the best games of his career.
