Thomas, 25, of Kansas City was shot in the head, while sitting in her car parked in front of an apartment building at 1301 E. Armour Blvd. Her 19-year-old boyfriend remained in critical condition this evening, police said.

The unemployment rate edged down in October from 9.5 percent to 9.3 percent in Missouri and from 6.9 percent to 6.8 percent in Kansas, according to state breakdowns released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Sprint Nextel Corp. saw its debt rating cut Friday by Moody’s Investors Service, which said the wireless carrier’s turnaround is taking longer than expected. Moody’s lowered Overland Park-based Sprint’s corporate rating one level to Ba2, two levels below investment grade. Moody’s said its outlook on Sprint was negative, meaning the carrier could be subject to further downgrades.
